Day 22

I AM EXHAUSTED!!!  What a long day of tech.  The cast call time was 12:30 PM, which is great, but I am just now sitting down in my apartment.  We didn’t leave the stage until about 11:15 PM (which was 45 minutes early) to get cleaned up to go home.  It’s all good.  When I got there this morning, I saw the wig schedule.  I get mine put on at 25 minutes to places.  Yes, I mean “put on.”  I leave my fifth floor dressing room (try climbing those stairs all day; well, it’s either that or Christine the haunted elevator) to go to the basement to meet up with Jeff, my wig man.  He puts the world’s smallest mic pac on my head (yes, on my head) and wraps my wig cap around it with hair pins to secure it in place.  I actually have to wear two wig caps.  I bring the mic element just to the start of my forehead.  You can’t even see it.  And going to the bathroom during the show is now a breeze!  Woo hoo!  I knew there had to be a better way, right?  After that, you get tights on, put on your robe and slippers (provided for you) to go down to your dresser (yes, I have a dresser).  They have everything out for you (and yes, they also put it away).  I must say that it feels a little awkward having everything done for you.  I like it, but I have this amazing feeling that I should be hanging that up, you know?  Anyway, no complaints – just something to get used to.  I was not able to wear my correct pair of hot pink tap shoes, because the heel grips were waiting to be put in.  Also, my hot pink polka dot dress had not been altered, so I had to wear it safety pinned up the back.  No worries, though.  There is not a fear of exposing one’s self when you’re sucked into a corset undergarment.  I don’t know how those women did it!  Following the opening dance sequence, I put the robe back on to watch some of the show before my next scene.  I have to tell you that “Sisters” is beautiful, as is the dressing room scene right before.  YOU HAVE TO SEE IT!!!  Actually, I didn’t have to put on another costume until after dinner.  So, we got back from dinner, and I figured we’d get started on my next part pretty quickly, so I dressed in my winter gear for “Snow.”  I think I sat in it for about 2 hours before I went on, and it was the last thing I was doing when I left this evening.  Woah…  I was dripping in sweat.  But the scene looks really cool!  And the inn, hold on to your britches – beautiful.  I ran to CVS with my car buddies on our way back, and now – sweet bedtime.  I am so tired.  I did have a nice dinner with my castmates tonight at Hockey Town.  That was fun.  No, we won’t be eating out every day, but being at the theatre for so long was just draining.  We needed to get out.  And another note, my wig – um – it’s gonna have to grow on me.  Jeff, my wig man, said it’s the “new poodle.”  Go ahead – laugh.  It’s short and it’s pretty curly – totally period, but a little scary.  In context, it’s probably very nice!  I got to learn a few steps for my Judy understudy part today (part of “I Love A Piano”).  It was cool to sit down with Andrew – a fellow hoofer.  He speaks my language!  And before I close, I want to give a big shout out to my buddy, Kilty!  What a day!
