Day 35 – 42

Wow – what a week!  It has been a great one, though.  Where to begin… so we started our week with a Tuesday matinee and an evening understudy rehearsal.  I was so excited for the rehearsal and finally learning some of the Judy track.  I got a little nervous, when we started, because things were moving quickly.  Some of the understudies have been in this position before, so they know the material.  Thankfully neither me nor the Phil understudy has been in this position, so we’re learning it together for the first time.  I got to learn “Sisters,” which is tricky with the huge fan, and the first half of “I Love A Piano,” which I love.  I think our dance captains were impressed, as was the pianist that stayed with us.  That made me feel better!  Once I got into the swing of it all, I felt great about getting to sing and dance this role.  There is more of that to come this Friday at our next rehearsal.  The only downside – I wish we had more rehearsals, because if something happened and I had to go on, I wouldn’t be ready.  This coming Wednesday, one of the producers is coming into town and taking the cast out to dinner.  That should be really fun!  Wednesday went as scheduled with two shows, I think.  And then, another day off for Thanksgiving.  Admittedly, it was my first Thanksgiving away from home, so that was different.  But a good chunk of the cast got together (I think there were 36 people in attendance) and had a Thanksgiving meal together.  My friend, Denise, made a very delicious turkey and ham (as well as the other main items) and everyone else brought dishes to compliment the meal.  It was nice to see what homemade recipes come from other families around the country.  I find it fascinating at how different we can all be, yet so much the same.  It was a nice day.  Aaron was here with me, so I was so thankful that we were together (with Sophie and Sam, too).  We had two show days on Friday (my parents and niece and nephew came in Friday evening, which was fun!) and Saturday, and the best thing came on Sunday – only one show!  Walter Bobbie came into town for our Friday matinee, so some of the cast got a little nervous for his arrival.  But, he seemed to love the show and gave some great notes (mostly about using the Fox space) on very picky critiques (picky in a positive way – meaning the show is in such a great place, that he can be picky).  It was nice to see him again.  And Saturday evening, Randy Skinner came and watched (he also watched Sunday afternoon).  He seemed to really enjoy the show, as well.  It was nice to speak with him again.  Sunday afternoon also found one of the dancers out with an injury, so one of our swings stepped in.  I got a call from our stage manager to assist in working the trio section of “Blue Skies,” which worked out well.  It was odd getting a call from him – I was worried, “Did I forget to sign in?”  Ha.  Anyway, Lea did fantastic, and the cast was so supportive of her efforts.  Being a swing is tough work.  After Sunday’s matinee, a lot of the cast headed out of town: some to New York, some to Las Vegas and some to Orlando.  But then some of us decided to hang around Detroit.  I know myself – I would’ve been exhausted coming back into town after traveling on my time off.  It feels nice to be relaxing.  Aaron stayed another night to spend time with me today.  So last night, after the show, we went to IKEA (yippee) in Canton and had Mexican food after.  It was tasty and a fun night.  Today, we slept in and went to Somerset Mall.  Have I told you how much I LOVE the store Anthropologie?  I got the cutest hat, a couple sweaters on sale and a great ruffled blouse.  Oh – and I got the battery in my watch replaced.  While I was waiting, I showed Aaron the style of ring I want when we pay off all our debt and are rich and famous.  Heehee…  We also went to this really neat greenhouse type place called English Gardens.  The trees that they were selling and had decorated were gorgeous.  I was in heaven.  We walked around Target and then went to Buffalo Wild Wings.  We just got back from that, and I thought, “Hey, I haven’t written a blog in a week.  I better get on that.”  So sorry, if I’ve let anyone down…  It just seems silly to write, “Today I had another show.  The end.”  Don’t get me wrong – it still doesn’t feel like work, and it still isn’t old.  Not a day goes by that I don’t consider myself so blessed; only now I’m starting to wonder what’s next.  With three weeks left, the concern over January’s paycheck has set in.  Ahhh – the life of an actor.
