Day 1

Well, I did it.  I left Indy.  Aaron drove me to the airport at about 1:30 PM.  Leaving Sophie and Sam at the house was very difficult.  Admittedly, I got a little teary-eyed not knowing if I would get to see them over the next two months.  I am crossing my fingers that Aaron will bring them to Detroit.  But that’s weeks away still.  A quick stop at McDonald’s (hey, I gotta play Monopoly), another quick stop to the bank and then we got to the airport at about 2:30 PM.  Getting baggage checked was an ordeal – who knew finding a printer could be so difficult?  Just to get my darn receipt!  And I still had to pay for my luggage.  About 30 minutes later, it was time to say goodbye – again – very hard.  But the good news, I will see Aaron on Sunday, so I just have to get through the first leg of rehearsals.  I had to go through some stricter checkpoints, but nothing major.  What’s up with the “blow all over you thing”?  That’s new.  Of course, when isn’t a flight delayed to La Guardia?  At least this time, it was only 30 minutes (not counting the 20 we sat on the runway).  Oh well – it gave me time to run lines.  But, I am now in the air hoping that my two checked bags and the one I had to check at the plane arrive safely with me (also safely).  Let’s also hope I can navigate my way through the airport with all of my luggage!  That’ll be a sight!  Ha!  How do you pack for two months?  While I am somewhat familiar with La Guardia and the whole “catch a taxi” part, I am not sure what will await me at my apartment.  I hope it’s clean, I hope it’s in a decent part of the city (my “backyard” is supposed to be Times Square) and that I can learn to navigate the subway easily.  Did I mention I am a little nervous about that?  Oh boy (as said in the spirit of Martha Ray).  After the flight, I caught a taxi (now dark) to take me to my apartment.  You know how you cross your fingers quietly hoping that it’s just nice, the bed is comfortable and it’s clean?  Well, I got so much more than that.  It’s SUPER nice; I really like my “home away from home.”  There’s even a doggie next door that barks occasionally – reminding me of Sophie and Sam.  It’s all good.  Too tired to go out for dinner, I popped a bag of popcorn and called it a night.  Yeah, they left me some comfort food in a welcome packet.  Nice, huh?
